Potential Health Benefits
1. Powerful antioxidant profile
Sea buckthorn berries naturally contain both water-soluble antioxidants, such as vitamin C, flavonoids and phenolic acids, and fat-soluble antioxidants, including carotenoids and tocopherols. This combination makes sea buckthorn particularly interesting in the context of oxidative stress. [1,2]
Gingerols and shogaols from ginger, together with polyphenols naturally present in honey, further broaden the overall spectrum of bioactive compounds in the formula. [4–6]
2. Natural support for the body’s defence mechanisms
Sea buckthorn contains a wide range of biologically active compounds, including vitamins, flavonoids, carotenoids, polyphenols, fatty acids and phytosterols. These compounds have been studied in connection with antioxidant mechanisms, inflammatory pathways and immune-related processes. [1–3]
An important note: unless the actual vitamin C content of Golden Shield has been laboratory tested, it is more accurate to describe sea buckthorn as a natural source of vitamin C rather than claim that the finished shot itself is “high in vitamin C.”
3. Ginger and digestive comfort
Ginger is one of the best clinically studied ingredients in this formula. In a systematic review covering 109 randomized controlled trials, some of the most consistent positive findings were observed in relation to nausea, vomiting and digestive function. [4]
For this reason, ginger is particularly interesting in the context of digestive comfort and gastric function.
4. Ginger and inflammatory markers
A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that ginger supplementation was associated with statistically significant changes in several inflammatory markers, including CRP, hs-CRP and TNF-α. This does not mean that Golden Shield treats inflammation, but it does provide a scientific basis for viewing ginger as a functional ingredient of interest in this area. [5]
5. Sea buckthorn and metabolic health
Sea buckthorn has also been studied in relation to cardiometabolic markers. A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials examined its effects on factors related to metabolic syndrome. The findings suggest potentially interesting effects in certain populations, although results vary depending on the specific sea buckthorn preparation and study design. [7]
6. Honey — more than sweetness
Honey in Golden Shield does more than balance the tartness of sea buckthorn and the heat of ginger. It also contains phenolic acids, flavonoids and other bioactive compounds with antioxidant properties. Human clinical research has explored honey in relation to metabolic, respiratory and other health outcomes, although effects depend on the type of honey, dose and context of use. [6]
Why these three ingredients together?
Sea buckthorn provides the berry-based antioxidant and phytochemical foundation. Ginger brings intensity and is particularly well studied in relation to digestion and inflammatory markers. Honey connects the two, softening the flavour while contributing its own naturally occurring polyphenols.
